This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Kaylin Mathews who was born in Borger, TX on March 01, 1988 and passed away in Agoura Hills, CA on July 01, 2008 at the age of 20. We will remember her forever. Kaylin was a talented musician. She could play the piano and taught herself how to play the guitar and the drums. She was also a very talented singer. Kaylin was an up and coming dj at the time of her death. She would spin records at parties. She loved doing it and was very good at it. Her spinning was to what she called happy hardcore. I believe that had she not died you would have been hearing about her. She was good. She had an easy laugh and a quick wit. She was always a feisty girl. As a child she was always so happy. As a baby she woke me up cooing at her clown mobile instead of crying. She was so smart too. She could read at a fifth grade level in kindergarten. She had the most beautiful blue eyes. Her smile lit up the room. She was beautiful, but never really seemed to know it. Kaylin could write. She often wrote poetry and stories. As Kaylin got older and hit the preteens she started having harder days. We chalked them up to puberty and the changes that brings. When Kaylin was 14 years old she was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. It was a disease that she struggled with until her death. Before she was taken from us she had discussed going back to college. She was thinking about becoming a psychiatric nurse or a music producer. Kaylin was one of those rare people who can truly have done anything they wanted, but she never seemed to realize it. She drove me insane some days, and there were days we did not get along. Like most teenagers she felt that I was cramping her style. :) Kaylin also amazed me with her fearlessness. Kaylin loved her little brother Jared with all her heart. He is almost 8 years younger than her but she still made him feel special. She would take him to the movies sometimes so they could do something together. She was his Sissy. She has a little sister too. She did not get to see Lexie as often as she would have liked, but she loved her. She would often tell me how smart she was after visiting her. She also loved spending time with her cousins. To them she was Kaykie. She would make them feel so special. She was an only child for almost 8 years, so her grandparents and aunts spoiled her rotten. She had us all wrapped around her fingers. Kaylin often stood up for the underdog. She didn't like to see people mistreated. Kaylin was a sweet, loyal, fearless, talented, complicated, loving, awesome, amazing girl. I miss her so much. I love you Kaylin Marie.
UPDATE: ON APRIL 16, 2010 WESTON THOMAS MCCAHON WAS SENTENCED TO 4 YEARS FOR INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER IN THE DEATH OF KAYLIN. WESTON TOOK THE PLEA OF INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER RATHER THEN STAND TRIAL FOR MURDER. FOUR YEARS IS THE MAXIMUM ALLOWED BY LAW IN CA FOR INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER.
